About

How It Started

As I've heard from many other people who have started podcasts, you rarely get it right on your first try. This show is my 4th attempt at some iteration of a podcast and I'm feeling proud of what this show is so far and what it can grow into over the next few years. I'm so glad to have gone through the growing pains of starting and stopping with multiple other shows to end up here.

I wanted to create a show that highlights topics across the full spectrum of health. It's great to talk about sleep optimization, walking more, the value of morning sunlight, or the best exercise protocol for XZY goal and to be clear, I love talking about those topics which is why it is a big part of the show...BUT only talking about those topics doesn't cover the full spectrum of health. There are larger, systemic issues at play that have a major influence on our overall health. The most glaring example is our healthcare system which runs on financial incentives that rewards for performing surgeries and procedures of symptoms, but does not compensate practitioners for prevention or spending the time to find the root cause of disease. That is just one of many examples.

It felt like having a show that can bounce back and forth between those very focused topics and bigger, sweeping conversations would be of value to a lot of people. If not, these are the things that I'm curious about anyway so I figured I might as well record these conversations with experts so I can reference them later on.

Format of Exploring Health

The format of episodes are long-form conversational interviews with subject matter experts covering all topics of health. They typically run from 60-90 minutes and they are all on recorded on video as well. So if you enjoy the traditional audio format of podcasts, this show is available on all major platforms. However, if you're more of a visual person, each episode will be on YouTube and those will be embedded here on each episode page as well.

As I alluded to earlier, the "micro" side of the show goes into very specific, tactical pieces of advice that you can start implementing today to start living a healthier life. These are around topics like sleep, exercise, nutrition, mindfulness, stress management, mental health, and much more.

The "macro" side of the show is talking about larger, system issues that have downstream effects on our health. Examples of these would be our food system fragility, climate change, social determinants of health, health disparities, and misaligned financial incentives in our healthcare system.

Let's look at nutrition to see an example of how these two tie together. I'm not going to make headlines by saying that eating a diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally sourced protein, whole grains, fiber, and healthy fats is better than eating fast food. However, what if a person lives in a food desert and doesn't have access to these fresh fruits and vegetables or doesn't have access to any good grocery stores near by? The conversation needs to expand to better understand our food supply system, why food deserts exist, and what can be done at varying levels of influence to help move things in the right direction.

There are countless examples where the "macros can become gatekeepers to the micro" as one of my guests very eloquently put it.

Meet Your Host: Parker Condit

For those of you who don't know me - Hi, I'm Parker. I'm originally from NJ and was an athlete growing up all the way through college playing both soccer and lacrosse. Much of my 20's was working as a personal trainer and performance coach in both Colorado and Arizona. I had the privilege of working directly with athletes from top professional sports leagues, including MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, PGA Tour, and LPGA Tour. The other group I worked with extensively were people suffering from persistent pain and it was those clients that were the most rewarding to work with. I was then the cofounder and CEO of Modo Bio, a healthcare technology company, for a little over 4 years where we provided a single source of data aggregation from all wearable devices that could easily be shared with friends, family, clinicians, and other healthcare providers to put health data ownership back in the hands of the patient. My background hopefully provides a unique perspective that can deliver information to help educate and guide people towards better decisions for themselves and their loved ones when it comes to health on both the macro and micro levels.

I currently reside in Arizona with my partner, Malavika, Louis and Max (dogs), and our plants.
